Guizot’s parents

François Guizot’s parents both came from a well-to-do Protestant bourgeois families in Nîmes. The boy hardly knew his father, who died before his seventh birthday. However, he lived with his mother, an impressive figure, until her death in March 1848 when he himself was over sixty years of age.
