4th October 1787: Birth in Nîmes.

1799-1805: Stay in Geneva.

1812: Marriage to Pauline de Meulan. Professor of modern history at the Faculty of Letters in Paris.

1814-1820: High-ranking civil servant during the liberal phase of the Restoration.

1820-1829: History lectures at the Sorbonne (suspended in 1822, resumed in 1828), activities as a historian and essayist.

1829-1832 : Publication in six volumes of the modern history course: History of Civilization in Europe. History of Civilization in France.

January 1830–February 1848: Deputy for Calvados.

3rd August–2nd November, 1830: Minister of the Interior.

October 1832–April 1837: Minister of Public Instruction.

March 1833: Death of his second wife Eliza Dillon, whom he had married in 1828..

1836: Elected to the Académie française. Acquisition of Val-Richer, near Lisieux.

February–October 1840: Ambassador to London.

October 1840–February 1848: Minister of Foreign Affairs.

19th September, 1847: President of the Council (Prime Minister).

March 1848–July 1849: Exile in London with his three children.

1856: Publication of the sixth and final volume of the History of the English Revolution, begun in 1826

Janvier 1857 : Mort de la princesse de Lieven, après une liaison de vingt années.

1857–1868: Publication of the eight volumes of Mémoires pour servir à l’histoire de mon temps (Memoirs to Serve the History of My Time).

January 1861: Memorable reception of Lacordaire at the Académie française.

1864–1868: Three volumes of Meditations on the Christian religion (Meditations on the Christian Religion).

February 1870: President of the Commission on Higher Education.

June 1872: Decisive participation in the general synod of the Reformed Church of France.
