Editing the cross-correspondence between 1836 and 1857, between the historian and statesman François Guizot (1787-1874) , and a female figure in the European diplomatic world in the first half of the 19th century, Dorothée van Benckendorff, Princess of Lieven (1785-1857) , To publish this book is to bring part of the private archives of a political and intellectual figure into the public domain. In the winter of 1837, after the death of François Guizot's eldest son, their meeting centred on their shared experience of the loss of a child. But the daily correspondence between the two lovers also grew out of their analysis and description of the political and diplomatic network of nineteenth-century France and Europe.
This digital edition aims to cultural, heritage and scientific. It is funded by the François Guizot Association and supported by the EMAN platform (ITEM /CNRS-ENS). This project is part of the 2020 Awards of the Académie des Sciences morales et politiques for the price of Fondation des travaux historiques et scientifiques.
The corpus consists of
more than 4,000 letters held by the Archives Nationales (Paris). It was published
between 1963 and 1964 (Letters from François Guizot and the Princess of Lieven
Lieven (1836-1846), preface by Jean Schlumberger (Les influences féminines dans
the life of François Guizot), Paris, Mercure de France, 3 volumes).
The editorial objective is to to provide full access to this body of correspondence, both to the autographs as well as a documented epistolary discourse. The publication seeks to enhance the corpus by by opening it up to new scientific investigations from other disciplinary fields by exploiting the documentary resources assembled in the thematic and biographical thematic and biographical content of the Guizot.com
It is this family, intellectual and political heritage

applying to this corpus an editorial treatment that meets the archival and scientific
and scientific principles determined by the digital environment in order to highlight the historiographical and cultural issues at stake.
The aim of this edition is to make it possible to read in a network, but also to search and delve into a corpus of correspondence. It is envisaged as a digital library structured into collections.

In December 2019, 410 letters, over 2400 folios, edited and transcribed, will be published in 8 collections.
