Born into a family from the Protestant bourgeoisie of N\u00eemes, he was the eldest son of an <a class=\"linkin\" title=\"Read the article on Andr\u00e9 Guizot\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guizot.com\/en\/family\/relatives-of-guizot\/andre-guizot\/\">lawyer<\/a> guillotined in 1794 for his Girondin views. August 1799, <a class=\"linkin\" title=\"Read the article about Mrs Bonicel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guizot.com\/en\/family\/relatives-of-guizot\/elisabeth-sophie-bonicel\/\">his mother<\/a> takes him <a class=\"linkin\" title=\"Read the article about Jean-Jacques Guizot\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guizot.com\/en\/family\/brother-of-guizot\/\">his brother Jean-Jacques<\/a> complete his education at <a class=\"linkin\" title=\"Read the article on Geneva\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guizot.com\/en\/its-locations\/geneva\/\">Geneva<\/a>, He left in June 1805. In Paris, he studied law and soon made a name for himself with his wit and temperament in the philosophical and literary salons, which remained aloof from the imperial regime. He then entered journalism, in particular at Le Publiciste, where he met his future wife, <a class=\"linkin\" title=\"Read the article about Pauline de Meulan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guizot.com\/en\/family\/wives-of-guizot\/pauline-de-meulan\/\">Pauline de Meulan<\/a>. Thanks to his high status, he was appointed Professor of Modern History at the Sorbonne in July 1812 and then, under the First Restoration, Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior.
