He cultivated close ties with the de Meulan family, from which came his two much-loved wives <a class=\"linkin\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guizot.com\/en\/family\/wives-of-guizot\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Read the article on the wives of Fran\u00e7ois Guizot\">Pauline and Eliza<\/a>, They take the interests of their surviving members to heart and often take responsibility for them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Twice widowed, he took very active personal care of his four children, two of whom died before him, including his daughter <a class=\"linkin\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guizot.com\/en\/family\/children-of-guizot\/henriette-pauline\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Read the article about Henriette\">Henriette<\/a> held a special place in his life. His de Witt sons-in-law and their relatives were integrated into the family group at the head of which he was the sometimes possessive patriarch, as was his daughter-in-law Gabrielle de Flaux, whom he had chosen for his son. <a class=\"linkin\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guizot.com\/en\/family\/children-of-guizot\/guillaume-guizot\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Read the article about Guillaume\">Guillaume<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, he happily practised the art of being a grandfather with his nine grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Throughout the vicissitudes of his career, Guizot found support and comfort in his family, which was dearer to him than anything else and which was sorely tested.
