Editing the cross-correspondence between 1836 and 1857, between the historian and statesman Fran\u00e7ois Guizot (1787-1874)<\/a> <\/a>, and a female figure in the European diplomatic world in the first half of the 19th century, Doroth\u00e9e van Benckendorff, Princess of Lieven (1785-1857)<\/a> , To publish this book is to bring part of the private archives of a political and intellectual figure into the public domain. In the winter of 1837, after the death of Fran\u00e7ois Guizot's eldest son, their meeting centred on their shared experience of the loss of a child. But the daily correspondence between the two lovers also grew out of their analysis and description of the political and diplomatic network of nineteenth-century France and Europe.

This digital edition aims to cultural, heritage and scientific<\/a>. It is funded by the Fran\u00e7ois Guizot Association<\/a> and supported by the EMAN platform (ITEM \/CNRS-ENS). This project is part of the 2020 Awards<\/a><\/strong> of the Acad\u00e9mie des Sciences morales et politiques<\/a> for the price of Fondation des travaux historiques et scientifiques<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe corpus consists of\nmore than 4,000 letters held by the Archives Nationales (Paris). It was published\nbetween 1963 and 1964 (Letters from Fran\u00e7ois Guizot and the Princess of Lieven\nLieven (1836-1846), preface by Jean Schlumberger (Les influences f\u00e9minines dans\nthe life of Fran\u00e7ois Guizot), Paris, Mercure de France, 3 volumes).

\nThe editorial objective is to\nto provide full access to this body of correspondence, both to the autographs\nas well as a documented epistolary discourse. The publication seeks to enhance the corpus by\nby opening it up to new scientific investigations from other disciplinary fields\nby exploiting the documentary resources assembled in the thematic and biographical\nthematic and biographical content of the Guizot.com<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nIt is this family, intellectual and political heritage\nintellectual and political heritage that the Association Guizot aims to enhance by\napplying to this corpus an editorial treatment that meets the archival and scientific\nand scientific principles determined by the digital environment in order to highlight the historiographical and cultural issues at stake.
